MISS SAINT PATRICK SCHOLARSHIP CONTEST

APPLICANT QUALIFICATIONS:

The applicant must be a resident of New Jersey. The contest is open to all single and never-married women of American Citizenship and Irish Ancestry between 17 to 21 years of age and who meet ONE of the following qualifications below:

  • Attend a Mercer County School or College
  • A Parent, Grandparent, or a Sponsor belonging to a Mercer County Irish Organization.
  • A Member in good standing in a Mercer County Irish Organization. Such as: The Ancient Order of Hibernians - Division # 1 and Division # 10, The Sons and Daughters of Erin, The Friendly Sons & Daughters of St. Patrick, The Emerald Society, The Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians of Division # 6 and Division # 10, or The Original St. Patrick’s Parade & Scholarship Committee at Hamilton.

    NOTE: **You do not qualify if you have ever been a recipient of a Trenton St. Patrick's Parade Committee scholarship.**

    BASIS OF JUDGING:

    The contest will be divided into four categories that will be evaluated separately by a panel of judges. The judges' decisions are final.

    The categories are as follows:

    1. Achievement as presented in application
    2. Essay evaluation
    3. Personal interview with the judges
    4. Final Selection Process
    In the event of a tie, the application event will be eliminated in the final calculations.

    ENTRANCE PROCEDURE

    1. Complete the attached application. (Please print or type.)
    2. Each applicant is required to submit a typed, original essay entitled, "My Irish Heritage and Why It Is Important to Me." The essay should not exceed 300 words.
    3. A letter of recommendation from a community member (i.e. guidance counselor, teacher, any school or community leader, or Irish-American Mercer County Organization)
    4. Submit the completed application, essay and sponsor recommendation form NO LATER THAN DECEMBER 10, 2011 to the following address:

    If selected MISS ST. PATRICK, I understand I must participate in the Original St. Patrick's Day Parade at Hamilton on Saturday, MARCH 10, 2012. I also agree that I will participate [if possible] in Parade Committee sponsored events held throughout the year, including but not limited to the Grand Marshal announcement, awards dinner and various fund raising events [festivals, etc.]

    I understand that all FINALISTS must participate on the float with Miss St. Patrick in the Original St. Patrick's Day Parade at Hamilton on Saturday, MARCH 10, 2012 in order to obtain their scholarship.
